US stocks closed higher on Wednesday (27 August): Dow +0.32%, S&P 500 +0.24%, Nasdaq +0.21%. Gains were supported by heightened investor enthusiasm ahead of NVDA’s earnings report, seen as a potential catalyst for the ongoing tech-driven rally. The 10-year US Treasury yield fell -0.12% to 4.232%, while the USD Index slipped -0.04% to 98.2.
Commodity markets mostly went up: WTI oil +1.42% to USD 64.15/bbl, Brent +1.23% to USD 68.1/bbl, CPO +0.40% to MYR 4,488, gold +0.11% to USD 3,397.4/oz, while coal remained flat at USD 111.6/ton.
Asian markets closed mixed: Kospi +0.25%, Nikkei +0.30%, Hang Seng -1.27%, Shanghai -1.76%. The JCI rose 0.38% to 7,936.2, with net foreign sales of IDR 140.5bn in the regular market and IDR 72bn in the negotiated market. The largest net foreign sells were recorded in BBCA (IDR 329.4bn), BMRI (IDR 98.8bn), and TLKM (IDR 49.8bn), while the top net foreign buys were in BREN (IDR 306.2bn), CUAN (IDR 148.5bn), and WIFI (IDR 82.8bn). Leading movers included BREN, DSSA, and BRPT, while lagging movers were TLKM, BMRI, and BBRI.
This morning, the Kospi opened flat (-0.01%), while the Nikkei rose +0.39%. We expect the JCI to move sideways today, amid mixed sentiment from regional markets.
